The NormaTec Recovery System™ by Hyperice™ is a dynamic pneumatic compression system that was invented by Dr. Laura Jacobs, a physician and engineer.
It was originally created to treat patients non-invasively with various circulatory disorders. The system is designed to mimic the normal flow of our venous and lymphatic systems to increase circulation in the areas of the body that are farthest from the heart (where we often need it the most!). This increase in circulation leads to increased oxygenation of tissues which assists in reducing pain, soreness, muscular tension, and swelling to assist in speeding up overall healing time.
How does it work?
Pulsing Compression: The NormaTec system uses compressed air to apply pulsing compression to the targeted area. The compression is delivered in a wavelike pattern, with the pressure increasing and then decreasing in a rhythmic cycle.
Sequential Compression: The NormaTec system also uses sequential compression, meaning that the compression is applied in a specific sequence, moving from the bottom of the limb or area being treated and working its way up.
Gradient Pressure: The pressure applied by the NormaTec system is also gradient, meaning that it is strongest at the bottom of the limb or area being treated and gradually decreases as it moves upwards.
Dynamic Compression: The NormaTec system also uses dynamic compression, meaning that the pressure and sequence of the compression changes in response to the specific needs of the individual being treated.
